FARO Chopper LIVE @ CONTROL

FARO Chopper at Control FairCONTROL, the major European exhibition dedicated to metrology, opened its doors this morning in Stuttgart, Germany. Every day, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the latest trends in quality control and attend events organized by the exhibitors.

See the photos of FARO’s chopper designed by Paul Jr. Designs, of the televisionshow American Chopper on our Facebook Page. Visitors at the FARO stand have the opportunity to be photographed on the powerful machine that was created exclusively for FARO’s 30th anniversary.

As with most custom choppers created by Paul Jr. Designs, the FaroArm was used to manufacture the birthday bike. It is important for PJD to be able to create unique pieces with speed and efficiency. Some elements, including the fuel tank, the seat pan and the cover of the primary belt give a glimpse of the real talent that goes into the design of each piece. All these elements have complex shapes and contours difficult to understand or replicate by hand.

The FaroArm scans the exact shape and location of the parts. The design and creation of cardboard templates are thus basically useless. The data collected by the arm can immediately be imported to a CNC machine or waterjet cutting tool to produce parts with high precision in perfect shape from the very start. The FaroArm therefore reduces waste, saves time and increases overall efficiency.

The FARO Focus3D scanner digitally maps the Cloaca Maxima beneath the Roman ForumThe FARO Focus3D scanner and its cutting-edge technology have helped Indissoluble, a company specialising in multimedia architecture, to devise a successful solution to the digital mapping of the Cloaca Maxima, the sewage system beneath the Roman Forum.

To perform the digital mapping, the company created three-dimensional models of the main underground conduits while demonstrating their relationship with the surface.

The laser scan provided the most precise information that can be obtained about the ruins, thereby adding to the knowledge acquired through studies conducted by the architect Giacomo Boni in the late 19th century.

“It was crazy out there!” – Jenson wins final 2012 Grand Prix in Brasil

JENSON WINS THE FINAL 2012 GRAND PRIX IN BRASIL: “It was crazy out there!”FARO congratulates the Vodafone McLaren team, especially Jenson Button, on his millimetre-perfect race and the brilliant management of the changeable and challenging weather conditions at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, Interlagos, Brasil.

Last Sunday after the extremely exciting race, the very last in this season, Jenson Button said: “The conditions were always going to trigger plenty of action, because some cars could generate the required tyre temperatures and others couldn’t. So, for most of the race, you were on a tyre that didn’t feel quite right for the conditions, but for which the lap-times looked okay compared with those of the cars on the other tyre.

“The Safety Car made life more difficult for us – we lost the 40-second buffer we’d built up – but then the rain really came down, and the race became all about choosing the best time to switch to the Inters.”

“Last but not least, congratulations to Sebastian [Vettel]. To win three world championships in a row is a great achievement.”

Lewis wins Austin Grand PrixFARO congratulates the Vodafone McLaren team, especially Lewis Hamilton, on its phenomenal performance last Sunday at the Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, USA.

Lewis’s victory was Vodafone McLaren Mercedes’ sixth grand prix win of the 2012 season and McLaren’s 12th grand prix win on United States soil.

“I’m massively proud and extremely happy. I nearly lost my voice because I was screaming so much on the in-lap – not cool at all!
“To overtake both Red Bulls in the race was the coolest thing for me. The backmarkers really came into play today – and, finally, they worked in my favour. I’ve often been caught out when I’ve been trying to get through traffic, but things finally went my way today.” Hamilton said after the race.

SCENE 5.1 officially launched and now available!

Categories: Corporate,FARO SCENE — Tags: , , , — vanputts @ November 9, 2012 — 2:05 pm

Large-scale laser scanning projects generate large data sets. The new version of SCENE makes such projects easier to manage by clearer data management and scan processing.

Here’s a short overview of new functionalities in SCENE:

Simply creating order

FARO has now integrated the so-called “Clipping Box” into the software. This tool steers the focus purposefully to those parts of the scan material that are relevant for the actual planning. The software offers users a point cloud view, comprised of countless scan points or a realistic photo view. The Clipping Box can now be used with just a few clicks to select the sections of the data material that are relevant.

SCENE 5.1 officially launched and available! These are then cut out and highlighted, and irrelevant material is blended out. It is therefore possible to create and visualise specific detailed views. Every Clipping Box with such detail from the scan project can be given a name, which makes it easier to retrieve at a later date. This, in turn, makes the work easier, creates order and reduces the quantity of data for export to CAD software, since users can choose to transfer selected data only as required.

Orthophotos open up new possibilities

With the help of the Clipping Box, the user also has the possibility of saving orthophotos in TIFF format. This enables to work in the available CAD software even if it cannot read scans, i.e. point clouds. The orthophotos then serve as a basis for drawings. These scaled images can be exported for further processing in virtually any 2D or 3D CAD system.

Accelerated work process

The new version of SCENE offers faster automatic positioning of a project’s individual scans. This is assisted by improved plane recognition and newly integrated automatic determination of the principle scan direction. This is very useful particularly in relation to the positioning of individual scans without previously defined and set registration marks, meaning sources of error are minimised. The automatic correspondence search, which searches for natural registration marks in scans, takes only half as long in SCENE 5.1 as in previous versions.

App-friendly and three-dimensionally navigable

The new version of the scan processing software from FARO also boasts an improved app interface. This permits straightforward app management and allows the software developer to program new apps easily for additional special purposes and to make them available on the new FARO website.

With a SpaceMouse from the manufacturer 3Dconnexion, which can easily be integrated into SCENE 5.1, navigation in three-dimensional scans becomes simple and streamlined. This means areas of detail relevant to planning can be accessed quickly.
